About the Role
The Sundre & District Historical Society is a passionate group of people who provide a unique destination exhibiting local history and the people that make that history so very special. As such preserving, documenting, researching, and maintaining the integrity of the Society's collection is very important.
Sundre is a rural community in the heart of the foothills, nestled close to the Rocky Mountains of Alberta. Traditionally, the museum hosts many community events throughout the year. During the summer join us in planning Multicultural Days, Indigenous Peoples' Day and Canada Day. Come autumn you will assist us in celebrating Culture Days and in the winter months Winterfest!
Join our team of dedicated volunteers and committed staff as a Collections Assistant Intern. As a intern here at the Sundre & District Museum you will assist us with data entry, collection management, preservation and research. Additionally, you will be able to get creative with exhibit design, and educational programming within our three gallery spaces. You will have the opportunity to build upon your formal education in the heritage sector through hands on training and professional job shadowing.
Education requirements: University graduate with a preferred Degree or Certification in Museum Studies; Bachelor of Arts - Anthropology, Archeology, History; Bachelor of Education
Skills: Computer Skills are a must, including knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel and Word, email and digital file management; Past Perfect and Virtual Collections knowledge ideal but not necessary. Excellent written and verbal communications skills desired. Previous work experience in areas of public service, guest service, tourism are helpful.
We are looking for someone who demonstrates great communication, quality leadership, an attention to detail and a readiness to inspire. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently on project type assignments that have a specific goal, procedure and deadline as well as on team related initiatives with diverse perspectives. Having positive values related to learning something new everyday, volunteerism and community will provide a great foundation to succeed in this role.
All applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada, or have refugee status in Canada (non-Canadians holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent resident status are not eligible). Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada (have a valid Social Insurance Number) and be between the ages of 16 and 30 years of age inclusively at the start of employment.
Please note that Sundre, AB is a rural or more remote location in the province and so the candidate is encouraged to se if the YCW Travel Policy may be applicable to their job application.
