About the Role

Responsibilities

· Supervising Children: Ensure the safety and well-being of children at all times. Supervise playtime, meals, naps, and other daily activities.

· Planning Activities: Develop and implement age-appropriate educational activities and programs that promote learning and development. This includes arts and crafts, storytelling, outdoor play, and educational games.

· Monitoring Progress: Observe and assess the development and progress of each child. Maintain accurate records of their growth, behavior, and milestones.

· Communication: Communicate effectively with parents and guardians about their child's progress and any concerns. Provide regular updates and seek input on developmental goals.

· Creating a Positive Environment: Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful environment where all children feel valued and supported.

· Health and Hygiene: Ensure proper hygiene practices are followed, including regular handwashing, diaper changing, and sanitizing toys and surfaces. Respond to minor injuries and illnesses promptly.

· Professional Development: Stay informed about the latest early childhood education practices, attend training sessions, and participate in professional development opportunities.

Qualifications

· Education: A diploma or degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or a related field is an advantage is preferred.

· Certification: Certification in First Aid and CPR is essential(will train). Additionally, candidates will need to complete a Child Care Orientation course if they have no previous ECE education.

· Background Check: A clean criminal record check and vulnerable sector check are mandatory.

· Experience: Previous experience working with children in a daycare or educational setting is highly preferred.

· Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, patience, creativity, and the ability to work effectively in a team are crucial for success in this role.

Salary and Benefits

The salary for daycare educators in Alberta varies based on experience, education, and location. On average, educators can expect to earn between CAD $38,770 and $57,450 per year depending on education and experience. Benefits include, paid vacation, year end bonus and opportunities for professional development.
